Numark Mixdeck – Review (5)

I haven’t done a review in a while, and understandably so: My Mixdeck has been pretty awesome.  Just a few things to note:

  • Platters & Scratching: for the longest time, I’ve contemplated getting CDJ’s or Turntables.  Besides, you’re not a ‘real’ DJ if you don’t have ‘real’ decks, right? WRONG!  At the end of the day, the end (creativity) justifies the means (jogwheels, platters, turntables, e.t.c.).  Besides, I’ve gotten pretty comfortable scratching with the Mixdeck platters.
  • Some buttons are beginning to ‘stick’.  I gotta push really hard to get them to work.  Very annoying.
  • Cross-fader blues: You can hear a static-y sound when cutting.  Also, when you’re in scratch mode & the crossfader is all the way to the left, you can still hear the right side cutting in sporadically.  That could probably be fixed by replacing the crossfader…

Well, after nearly 2 years, I think I’m ready to retire the Mixdeck and move onto something else.  Not sure what I’ll get yet…but definitely, it’s gotta have a better crossfader.  I also need a dedicated effects console.
Of course, it also has to be Traktor-friendly 🙂
