New Year, New … ?

I am approaching 15 years since my first paid gig. It has been an amazing journey as a mobile DJ entertainer. I have enjoyed meeting so many different people, even sharing the stage with celebrities, traveling around and outside the States, experiencing different cultures and settings. It’s basically like being paid to party!

15 years in, the mobile DJ landscape has changed quite a bit. There’s more competition in my area, which means more pressure to stand out. I also see an over-commercialization of DJ tech and supplies. The market is being flooded with all kinds of stuff and mounting pressure on DJ’s to ‘upgrade’ equipment frequently, just to keep up with the Joneses (or Jetsons in this case, I guess). And then there’s the looming AI boom that (apparently) will soon make us all redundant – whenever that happens.

While trying to navigate these uncertainties and pressures, I took out the first few weeks of the year to prayerfully reflect on my journey so far, and plan for the future. It was a great opportunity to recharge and remind myself of why I do this in the first place: to make people happy by creating unique music experiences.  It’s really that simple. As long as I keep this simple “why” in the forefront, I should be fine. By God’s grace 🙂
